General information

This seminar, taking place on 21 May 2015 in Hotel Scandic Bergen City, will foster a discussion between scientists and stakeholders regarding future research perspectives and needs in the field.

Time: 21.05.2015 09:00 - 16:00

At the base of marine food webs reside planktonic communities whose regulation is critical for vertical carbon transport. Whether the main goal is to study biological diversity or potential for biomass production, understanding planktonic food web dynamics is of high importance for a variety of activities such as fisheries, aquaculture, or water quality management. Experimental and theoretical research is conducted aiming at creating reliable models of the dynamics and main factors driving the interactions between the main groups, namely viruses, bacteria, microalgae, zooplankton and, potentially, higher trophic levels.

This Hjort seminar will bring together researchers and stakeholders with an interest in marine planktonic food web dynamics to share their experiences and provide a unique opportunity to discuss future research needs in this field. The seminar will involve talks by several invited speakers (list follows), as well as a plenary discussion at the end.
