Scope:
The Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters course has been designed to meet the requirements of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, Table A-V/4-1.
Course content:
- Safe operation and manoeuvrability of vessels operating in polar waters;
- Understanding of ice characteristics;
- Vessel performance in ice and low air temperature;
- Pollution-prevention and legislative requirements;
- Simulator training;
- Apply safe working practices and respond to emergencies.
Those who succesfully complete this course should achieve the required standard of competence for the training and qualifications of Masters and Deck Officers on ships operating in Polar Waters.
