Scope:
The ECDIS 3-day course has been designed to meet the requirements of the STCW Convention 1978, as amended, Table A-II/1 and A-II/2. Taking the IMO Model Course 1.27 as a guideline.
Course content:
- Historical background and ECDIS terminology;
- Horizontal and vertical chart datum;
- Raster and vector charts;
- advantages and disadvantages of ECDIS;
- Display and functions of navigational information;
- Safety issues;
- Case studies and further developments.
Those who succesfully complete this course should achieve the required standard of competence to operate ECDIS equipment, use the navigational functions of ECDIS, select and asses all relevant information and take proper action.
