General information
MATLAB is a very popular and widely used programming language and MATLAB proficiency is expected nowadays in many scientific fields. The goal of the course is to provide an introduction to MATLAB for people with some basic programming and computing skills. The students will learn how to work with variables, create scripts, analyze data, create figures, compute derivatives and integrals numerically, solve Ordinary Differential Equations and Partial Differential Equations in simple domains, etc.
A 3h practical session will be held after every lecture; the teacher will demonstrate the techniques and concepts explained during the lecture and the students will apply those concepts through practical examples and exercises.
Programme information:
- Day 1: What is MATLAB? When and why do I use MATLAB?. Variables. Matrix calculus refresher. The script. Reading and writing data. Programming style.
- Day 2: Algorithms (II). Basic data analysis. Integrals and derivatives. Roots.
- Day 3: Basic line plots. Advanced line plots. 2D plots. Surface plots. Images.
- Day 4: Interpolation (1D and 2D). Advanced interpolation.
- Day 5: Solving ODEs and PDE.
Number of hours (T stands for theory, P for practical and H for home work hours): 14T+16P+10H
