Norway is among the largest and most innovative shipping nations in the world. The maritime industry is very strong in Norway and provides the basis for maritime competence worldwide, as well as opportunities for innovation and strengthening of a keyindustry both at sea and in land-based positions.
The programme offers two alternative specializations, one technical and one commercial. The program focuses on key challenges and issues within the maritime industry. Some courses focus exclusively on the maritime industry, while other course units are more generic. The programme also covers management and leadership skills. The programme is designed toprovide a broad understanding of topics that are specifically related to the maritime industry.
What you will learn
The two specializations have different learning outcomes in this master’s programme. In the commercial specialization, you will learn about accounting and financial management, supply chain management and maritime law.
Alternatively, in the technical specialization you will learn about ship structures, ship machinery, electro, automation and telecommunications.
In addition, there are several common topics covered, such as ship operations, ship design, marine economics, strategic analysis and leadership, management of construction projects, methodology, organization and management, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Prerequisites:
Admission to the Master of Science in Maritime Management with specialization Maritime Technical Management (application code 7124), requires either:
- three-year bachelor degree in engineering or
- three- year bachelor degree in maritime operations (nautical or machinery) or
- equivalent education.
Admission to the Master of Science in Maritime Management with specialization Maritime Commercial Management (application code 7128), requires either:
- three-year bachelor degree in business administration or
- three-year maritime bachelor degree in shipping and logistics or
- equivalent education.
In addition to the foregoing, a cumulative grade point average is required, equivalent to, or better than, a C in the ECTS system (we do the grade conversion).
Further, you will have to provide certified proof of English proficiency.
Please note: If you have ship-certificates or work experience in the maritime industry, please upload documentation of this.
Reservation of places:
50% of the places in the study programme are reserved for applicants holding a Norwegian bachelor degree.

When to apply:
1. Admission is once a year and the semester starts in August.
2. The application portal opens October 1st.
3. The application deadlines are:
- December 1st: Applicants with citizenship and education outside EU/EEA
- March 1st: Applicants with citizenship AND/OR education from EU/EEA
- Applicants that live in Norway on a student visa are recommended to apply as an international applicant. Please read important information.
4. If your deadline is December 1st or March 1st you will receive the result of your application April 25th.
- When the results are ready you will be notified through your registered e-mail address. You will then be able to see the results of your application in USN's application portal. If you are offered admissions to a study programme, you will be given a short deadline to respond.
- If you didn't get an offer, you can say yes to the offer to be put on the waiting list. In May we will ONLY contact the applicants that get an offer from the waiting list.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
If you live in Norway and apply with your Norwegian ID number in the webportal for Norwegian applicants, the results of the application will be in the end of May and you will only get the same information and letters as the Norwegian applicants.
This means that if you need a VISA, you should apply as an international student before December 1st. You will then receive an earlier response and also get a letter of offer to be used in the visa application. You may only have one active application.
Please note that international applicants with a master degree from Norway may have problems getting a new visa for a new master.
Applicants with a bachelor from outside the Nordic countries will be ranked in the same quota.
