The world’s oceans have huge living resources which will become more and more important for human’s future welfare. In order to use, protect and further develop these resources in a sustainable way, there is a need for dedicated and well-educated young people with broad and interdisciplinary knowledge about marine biological resources, the marine environment, marine technologies that enable a sustainable use of resources and societal aspects in the marine sector.
The MSc program Ocean Resources at NTNU (MSOCEAN) aims to give the students a broad perspective beside their main in-depth specialization in marine science or marine engineering. The Master of Science programme in Ocean Resources is a two-year international multidisciplinary MSc-programme with five specializations. Both natural science and engineering departments are involved, and the programme is especially designed to give the students a broad understanding of the complex interactions in the marine sector. NTNU has excellent research communities in marine science and technology and students can meet and work with their future employers and develop contacts with other relevant partners.
MSc Ocean Resources, specializations:
A Master's degree in Ocean Resources will give you a solid basis for further careers, both nationally and internationally. The multidisciplinary background this programme offers is requested by both the fisheries- and aquaculture industry, other marine companies in the seafood cluster, other marine industries, as well as administrative authorities involved in management of marine environment and resources (In Norway, for example Miljødirektoratet, Fylkesmannen, and Fiskeridirektoratet). The students in MSc Ocean Resources have the option of meeting possible future employers through the “Bridgehead Havbruk”, which organise conferences and other meeting places for students, companies in the marine sector, public actors and supervisors.

Cost:
<p>There are no tuition fees in public universities in Norway, however you need to pay a semester fee (NOK 510) each semester.</p>

- Marine Technology
- Marine Biology
- Marine Biochemistry
- Aquaculture
Marine Technology background: Students studying Marine technology qualify to enter the MSc in Ocean Resources.
Biology background: In order to qualify to enter the MSc in Ocean Resources, students studying biology at the NTNU have to take the following specialization BSc in Biology, Marine Biology and Aquaculture (course curriculum for the BSc in Biology https://www.ntnu.no/studier/studieplan-realfag)
Biomarine Innovation or Biotechnology background: Students studying the Bachelor programme Biomarine Innovation or Biotechnology at NTNU Ålesund are qualified to enter the MSc in Ocean Resources.
Food technology: Students studying the Bachelor programme Food technology at NTNU are qualified to enter the MSc in Ocean Resources.
Specific admission requirement
Admission to this master degree programme is based on relevant bachelor degrees or a corresponding degree, and requires an average grade of C (according to ECTS Standards) based on courses in the main profile of this degree programme.
For applicants that start their studies in Autumn 2019, the calculation of the average grade C will be based on all courses included in the bachelor degree or a corresponding degree that are demanded for admission to this master degree programme.
Application Procedure:
Applicants with Norwegian or Nordic citizenship, or who hold a first degree from Norway or one of the other Nordic countries, are required to apply via NTNU's Søknadsweb. If you are are an international student, self-financed or Quota Scheme, you are required to complete a preliminary application by 1st of December. The preliminary applications will be processed after 1 December, and you may expect a reply in late December or early January. If your preliminary application is approved, you will receive a final application form by e-mail including necessary information about what docuements to submit. The final application form must be returned to us along with all the necessary documentation by 1st of February.
