General information
MATES project – An ocean of new professional opportunities for a competitive economy for the Sea of the Azores
General description:
Fundo Regional para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FRCT) is a partner in a new EU-funded project called MATES. The MATES project’s objective is to develop a skills strategy that addresses the main drivers of change to the maritime industry, in particular shipbuilding and offshore renewable energy. FRCT will facilitate this workshop in collaboration with the Azores School “Escola do Mar dos Açores” (EMA). The workshop will focus on the analysis of educational and vocational needs in the blue economy, with the aim of identifying future activities required to meet these needs. Moreover, it will address the offshore renewable energy sector and the thematic areas of Ocean Literacy and Innovation Management to identify potential future innovations. During the workshop, stakeholders will describe the current situation of offshore activities in the Azores, identifying the needs and will contribute to a foresight exercise in which activities will be identified for the short, medium and long term. Participants will be allocated to discussion tables, where facilitators will promote interaction and discussion. This methodology will allow for effective mobilisation through dynamic debate, after which the facilitators will present a summary of the main conclusions. The outcomes of the workshops will feed into to a long-term strategy for the maritime sector which will be developed by MATES.
