General information

Are you interested in finding out how to use ROV techniques in your research field?

ROV:s (Remotely Operated Vehicle) are unmanned vehicles attached to a research vessel by an umbilical cord. They are used for surveys of the sea bed, for deployment and recovery of instruments and for sampling of water and organisms.

This course will cover the whole procedure from how to plan field work with a ROV, processing data from videofilms, still photos etc. and how to use basic multivariate statistics for the collected data. 1,5 days will be spent at sea on the research vessel Nereus using the ROV. The collected material will be used for group projects during the course and presented at the end of the course.

The course is intended firsthand for PhD students and will be held at the Sven Lovén Center, Tjärnö, field station of Gothenburg University. The station is situated on the Swedish West Coast, close to the Norwegian border. A full list of PhD courses from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Gothenburg is available here.
