General information
The Mares Conference 2016 will commence with two days of MARES Consortium / EuroMarine Network high level training workshops on the 1st and 2nd February 2016 aimed at students, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows and researchers. Two training workshop packages will be offered: the ‘Effective Outreach Workshop’ or ‘Research Tools Workshop’. This workshop is part of the Effective Outreach Workshop.
Manuscript Submission and Review workshop: Dos and don’ts in manuscript submission and review: An editor’s perspective
The process of preparing and submitting a manuscript for publication can be a mysterious and intimidating experience. This session will try to remove the mystery and alleviate the intimidation. The process of submission, review and decision for a scientific paper has become relatively standardised, irrespective of the journal. Some generalizations about the process can therefore be made, and offered as general advice. The personnel involved are: Authors, Editors and Reviewers. The roles and responsibilities of each of these will be reviewed.
Specifically the processes involved in:
- defining the contribution of your study, and its relation to journal ‘status’;
- manuscript preparation and submission;
- protocols for co-authorships;
- following journal practice, style and advice to authors;
- communicating with the editor;
- dealing with and replying to reviewers;
will all be considered in an interactive session.
